Three Ways to Accessorize for Success
“The best color in the whole world is the one that looks good, on you!”
~ Coco Chanel
The way you accessorize an outfit can determine whether it is a success or a failure. Accessorizing may not seem important. On the other hand, you must remember that as you move through the course of the day you are on display whether you like it or not. In the event that you do want to be in the spotlight, accessorizing is the fastest way to turn heads. There is nothing that pulls an outfit together quite like a couple of strategically placed accessories. The right accessories send the message that you have a sharp eye for detail and are fully in touch with the latest fashion trends. There are several ways to accessorize and make every single outfit a raging success!
The Jewelry
The jewelry that you choose to wear with an outfit is the most important element of accessorizing. Jewelry that does not complement your outfit or that is poorly constructed will take away from the whole “look” that you are trying to establish. You should always select jewelry that enhances what you are wearing. For example, if you are wearing a simple outfit then you can pair it with statement jewelry such as large hoop earrings or a chunky pendant. However, if your outfit is more extravagant then you should select understated jewelry such as a thin choker or a pair of diamond stud earrings.
Purse or Wristlet
Your purse or wristlet is a convenient place to stash everything from your wallet to a pack of gum. Gone are the days of the enormous purse that could, literally, hold a small child inside. The latest fashion trends include medium sized purses and trendy wristlets that dangle fashionably off the wrist. When accessorizing with a purse or wristlet, the color or pattern must complement your outfit. That’s why it’s always a good idea to have several purses or wristlets stored in your closet so that you always have one to match any outfit. If you outfit features an intricate pattern, then you can pair it with a solid colored purse or wristlet. Alternatively, if your outfit is solid colored, you can have some fun pairing it with a patterned purse or wristlet in a complementary shade.
Belts and Shoes
When it comes to accessorizing with a belt and shoes, common sense is the order of the day. Ideally, the belt and shoes should be made in similar materials such as leather or natural fibers. The colors should also match for the sake of continuity. For example, a pair of black shoes would just not look right paired with a brown belt. However, it is possible to get away with a belt and shoes that do not match perfectly but carry similar hues. Case in point, a pair of chocolate brown colored shoes would look amazing if paired with a chestnut brown belt. The key to successfully accessorizing with a belt and shoes is to stay within the same “family” of colors.
Accessorizing might seem difficult considering just how fast fashion trends tend to change. The good news is that fashion trends are often revisited every few years. Dedicate a special place in your closet for all of your accessorizes and follow the manufacturer’s care instructions to ensure that you are always ready to accessorize for success.
