Superheroes Arrive Once a Year

While there are other holidays and celebrations that allow adults to dress in costumes, none of those are as noteworthy or memorable as the annual Halloween celebrations that take place across America. For example, annual cosplay conventions give adults the ability to dress up as their favorite characters and perhaps don superhero capes for adults with no worries. It even has its very own cosplay psychology behind it.

Halloween is another beast altogether, though. It’s during this historic holiday that the superheroes really get to come out and play. In fact, they’re expected to get out and play, no matter how old those superheroes might be. Adult Halloween celebrations have become more and more accepted over the years, with some companies going all out to throw their employees annual Halloween bashes that allow them to sport costumes. Then come the always fun Halloween costume contests that let adults outdo each other in the makeup and cape departments.

The question for some naysayers is what exactly these celebrations accomplish. The answer for those naysayers is: A lot! When companies have annual Halloween celebrations, they give their employees one of the best team building exercises to be found anywhere, completely for free. It’s devoid of order but that’s the fun of it. Each employee’s personality gets to shine through and they can connect with other co-workers who share atheir interests.

Superhero costumes are for those employees who most enjoy the legend of the superhero. We all know the story. It’s the underdog who crossed paths with a radioactive spider and became the hero of the neighborhood, risking his own life to save the lives of others. It’s the dark superhero who saw his parents murdered in an alley and decided to devote the rest of his life and wealth to fighting crime. It’s the person with no superhero powers, just a cape and a will to do good for the people around him. All of these things can be captured during the Halloween season, when an adult can sport a cape and show their support for the things that superheroes embody.

Above all else, it’s a desire to do good for their fellow human beings. They make countless sacrifices and do so with nothing but the good of others in mind. When Halloween rolls around, you can show love for this heroic creature by sporting a customized cape of your own, or you can go with one of the superhero capes of the past that everyone immediately recognizes when they see it. There are many capes that will allow someone on a budget to still go dressed well to their favorite Halloween party. Others might choose to go all out and throw down a few hundred dollars on a costume that will rival all other costumes.

Superhero costumes will always be a big part of any great Halloween gathering. They really capture the spirit of the Halloween season while keeping things in a realm of fantasy instead of horror. Sometimes, this captures the costume wearer better than the scary stuff.
