Guide to Beauty Fact and Fiction

Guide to Beauty Fact and Fiction

Once again we have revealed some beauty myths that we thought you may find interesting;

You can repair split ends with a good conditioner

No. Unfortunately there is no way to ‘repair’ split ends, the only way to rid yourself of them is to have a good trim. There are products on the market that may improve the appearance of split ends, but that’s all they can do.

You don’t need to protect your skin from UV on a cloudy day

The sun’s UV rays do make their way through clouds and can still damage your skin. If you are looking for alternatives to sunblocks, a brimmed hat can provide protection, along with clothing that covers as much skin as possible.

The cleaner your skin the better

While it is good to remove dirt and grime from your skin at least once a day, you must be careful not to leave it too stripped of its natural oils from one day to the next. Try using a thorough cleanser and following with a good moisturizer at night (as you are more likely to have worn makeup or exposed your skin to pollutants) but go for a gentler formula in the morning. Never leave your skin feeling tight.

You must stick to the same brand of beauty product

You may hear this kind of thing from a representative of a big brand. It’s not true – they are saying this in the hope of keeping you ‘loyal’ to their products. Use whatever works best for you and don’t be afraid to try different brands until you find out.

Natural or hypoallergenic products will not cause allergic reactions

If you are allergic to a product, whether or not it is natural, it will still cause an allergic reaction. Often hypoallergenic products are simply fragrance-free, and while they may be less likely to cause a reaction it is still possible that they could. If in doubt, patch-test your product on the inside of your wrist – if there is no reaction within 48 hrs you probably are not allergic to any of the ingredients.
