Life Lessons to Learn at Home
Homeschooled kids learn more life lessons than their counterparts who go to school. Although schools teach great academics and children learn these subjects well, they are sadly lacking in teaching them how to live life.
The reality is that most schools don’t teach life lessons in school so when they graduate and go out into the world, they are not able to deal with daily life as a grown up. if you are a homeschooling parent, you have a great opportunity to make sure that your children learn important life skills together with their academics.
Below are some tips to help you teach your children some important life lessons.
In home economics, we learn how to cook and about nutrition which is not really enough to prepare one for the real life outside of school. It is the privilege of homeschooling parents to be able to teach their children how to cook and clean and use these lessons in real life.
Don’t clean up after children but encourage them to clean as they go. Cleaning up as part of the lesson will soon be brought out of the school setting and bring it with them as a habit through life.
Budgeting should also be taught at home. A lot of people have never been taught how to budget and this is why when they grow up they get into financial trouble. Budgeting is not taught in school and is not part of the math subject. And herein lies the problem.
You can do activities at home that will teach your children how to budget. Using play money, you can always play shopping. Going to a child friendly store like Anthill shop N play is a great place to teach budgeting. If you give each one money to buy items, then they will start learning how to budget their money to be able to buy everything that they need. Another way to teach this is by giving your children an allowance which has to last for a month. They can use their money to pay for candies, toys, or activities, but it has to last them for a month.
Schools teach children to eat healthy and stay active but not to take care of oneself. We can see many adults not knowing how to take care of themselves because they were never taught as children to do so.
Teaching meditation is a good way for children to learn how to calm their minds and relax them. They can use deep breathing to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. Help them to express themselves and their feeling in different ways like art or other ways of self expression.
Being able to educate your children in these things as a homeschooling parents is a great privilege and opportunity. In the future, when they become adults all these life lessons can be applied to help them live normal, happy lives.
